Meet Mama Sassy

From the backyard to the bottle.

Mama Sassy’s did not start with a formal business plan. It began at Sunday dinner, with a familiar guest who regularly arrived “hands swinging”—our local phrase for empty-handed.

After being called out, the friend returned with a sack of hot goat peppers and a challenge: make something delicious, then save a sample. Fresh rosemary, Spanish thyme and sweet papayas from the backyard became the first Saucy Miss Ida Papaya Pepper Marinade.

01

How we got started

The first jars went to close friends. One friend carried a batch to a local pop-up market, where the response was immediate—customers fell in love with the balance of fruit, herbs and heat.

02

An award-winning favorite

Saucy Miss Ida went on to win sauce competitions for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and the Tru Tru Bahamian Festival, turning a backyard experiment into an island success story.

03

What we make today

The collection now includes tropical marinades, pepper jellies, balsamic vinaigrettes and the rich Guinness Pepper Glaze—all made to bring bold Bahamian flavor to real tables.
